These Terms of Use govern your access to and use of the Citizens Before Politics website and civic engagement platform ("the Platform"). By accessing or using the Platform, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use the Platform.
1. Eligibility
Use of the Platform is limited to United States citizens who are 18 years of age or older. By registering, you represent that you meet both requirements. Accounts created by ineligible users will be deactivated.
2. Verification
Participation in citizen voting requires identity verification. Verification confirms that you are a unique U.S. citizen and assigns your electoral districts. The verification fee is $0.82, which covers Stripe's identity verification fee ($0.50) and processing ($0.32).
Verification is processed by Stripe Identity under Stripe's terms and privacy policy. Identity information submitted during verification is stored by Stripe on their platform, not on Citizens Before Politics servers. Citizens Before Politics does not download, export, or store this information independently. Access to Stripe's dashboard is limited to payment dispute resolution and fraud prevention.
3. Verification Fee and Refund Policy
The verification fee is non-refundable. If your verification attempt fails due to a technical error or processing issue on our end, you will be given one additional verification attempt at no charge. This one-time courtesy re-verification does not apply to failures resulting from inaccurate information submitted by the user.
4. Voting
Each verified account may cast one vote per amendment proposal and one vote per provision. Votes are final and cannot be changed after submission. This limitation exists to maintain the integrity of the verified record.
5. Sponsor Credits
Verified users may purchase sponsor credits to cover the verification fee for other participants. Sponsor credits are non-refundable and non-transferable. Credits are applied in the order they are made available and may not be reserved for specific individuals.
6. Accounts
You are responsible for maintaining the security of your password and recovery code. Citizens Before Politics cannot recover accounts. If you lose both your password and your recovery code, your account cannot be restored. Account deletion is permanent. Votes cast prior to deletion remain in aggregate totals but are permanently disassociated from your account. A new account will require a new verification and payment of the verification fee.
7. Conduct
You agree not to use the Platform to submit false information during verification, create more than one account, interfere with the integrity of the voting process, or engage in harassment, threats, or abuse directed at other users or the organization.
Accounts found to be in violation of these terms will be deactivated without refund of any fees paid.
8. Intellectual Property
The content on this Platform, including amendment text, educational materials, and site design, is the property of Citizens Before Politics. You may share and reference this content for non-commercial, civic purposes with attribution. You may not reproduce it for commercial use or misrepresent it as your own work.
9. Disclaimers
The Platform is provided as-is. Citizens Before Politics makes no guarantees regarding uninterrupted access, technical accuracy, or outcomes resulting from citizen participation. The Platform is a civic record, not a government proceeding. Participation does not create any legal right or government obligation.
10. Limitation of Liability
To the extent permitted by law, Citizens Before Politics is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of or inability to use the Platform.
11. Changes to These Terms
We may update these terms as the Platform evolves. Material changes will be posted on the site with an updated date. Continued use after changes are posted constitutes acceptance.
